Especially for Mother's day

Rose, my 33 week old Welsummer has finally laid her first egg. She spent all morning in the nest boxes. First trashing one and then trashing the other one before finally coming out at lunch time having laid nothing. I went to visit my mother this afternoon but was delighted on my return to find a small dark brown egg in the run! She's a big girl, bigger than the ex-batts so I suppose this was a practice egg. I'm just thrilled she saved it for today.

That's fantastic news! You must be so proud. Really pleased for you. Its a fantastic feeling isnt it?
PS I didn't eat my first couple of eggs for a few days, I kept them in the fridge and kept taking them out and stroking them! LOL! I've posted photos of them somewhere. We are now up to full production, 4 eggs a day, and I still get a thrill when I collect them when I come home from work.

I was born too soon. This is one old dog who doesn't seem able to learn new tricks.
On the bright side another slightly larger egg today. Unfortunately after spending about 2 hours in the nest box she gave up and laid it in the run again!
