I'd like to get a couple of hens for my small urban back garden and have looked at the triangular chicken arks at the Jim Vyse website. The standard ark is 6ft x 3ft x 3ft and suitable for 3 birds (http://jimvysearks.co.uk/Pages/3BirdStandardArk.html).
As I work during the day is it OK to have two birds in an ark, and for me to let them out only when I am around? I will be setting up a small vegetable plot in the garden together with container grown veg so would not want the birds having free roam during the day to get at the veg.
Is is cruel to keep the birds cooped up in an ark most of the day? Would I be better with bantams? Or would the Mini Swiss Ark on the Jim Vyse site (http://jimvysearks.co.uk/Pages/ArkMiniSwissArk.html) be more appropriate given the circumstances?
Thanks.
