Getting the Bantams in June/July when we get back from Holiday which seemed the more sensible thing to do.
Been trawling the internet looking for a suitable sized house, we are keeping them seperate from the Chickens whilst locked up and only getting 2 bantams so only need something big enough for the 2. Was looking at adapting a Small Rabbit Apex/Run, as the Bants will be out in the garden most of the day while we are there anyway.
It was either Bantams or a Beehive and we dont eat honey, other than whats in the Crunchie chocolate bars
If you're good at making stuff Hinksy, you could try the broody coop - plans posted by Bramble as a sticky. I've made one and it's great - in fact I've made 2. My 4 Orp bantam chicks are in it at the moment and at 7 weeks have plenty of room - there's 2' of perch space
Thanks Sue had a peek at the sticky and downloaded a couple that looked interesting, been trying to draw up my own coop design today though so it's nice and custom made for the girls.
The point to the numbers thing is not so much for the newcomers to stick up for each other, but for there to be enough of them to share the bullying out so you don't get 1 'newbie' picked on by 2 or 3 'old timers'.
That is why if you want to increase your flock you should add as many as you've already got! (well it's worth trying anyway)
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
