New quieter hens

For the people who gave me advice about my five noisy golden campines, unfortunately I had to let them go. I found a local chicken/egg farmer and breeder and he and a few others informed me that were actually bantams and are naturally noisy and active birds. So I now have six hybrids that are really quiet and docile in comparison and are bloody huge!

The only things I have noticed are that one has a lower eye lid that seems to sag a little bit, is that a major problem? Also one laid an egg which appeared to have no hard shell on it and they ate it, not something you want to see before breakfast!

if they have come from a breeder, they may not have got into a routine of laying, or could just be sorting themselves out. The stress of the move could also bring on the odd soft shell

If they have been allowed to eat their on eggs, then you will need to ensure you collect the eggs at regular intervals throughout the day if possible to avoid this and get them used to them being collected so they cant eat them. Mine do on occasions and the odd soft shell is nothing to worry about.

However it may be worth adding in some grit/oyster shell to their coop so they can take whenever they want, that way if the soft shell is because they are lacking in calcium this will help out. Although too much calcium can be a problem too, but I tend to give them a pot and they help themselves
