sweat peas and chucks

I cant remember if I've posted this, but are sweat peas okay to be grown up the side of the chooks run? I was hoping they would offer some shelter and brighten up the outside. But I wasnt sure if they tried to peck them, if they were poisonous.

I know if us humans eat the pods then it will make us pretty poorly

I think chickens will peck at anything, so you won't get any sweet peas anyway.

I grow sweet peas every year. My girls pecked at them, but I still got lots of blooms, no harm done to them. Mine were dotted in the garden though so they had plenty else to peck at. I think growing them up the side of the run wouldn't be a good idea if you want flowers though.

I think sweet peas are poisonous, they are to horses.

I'd not bother trying to grow anything directly on their fence but could you rig up a frame several inches away from them.All it would take is a few canes/posts popped in the ground and string joining them together for your peas to grow up.(just work out how far the chooks can poke their heads out and set it an inch or two further away)
