  • Araucanas wanted in Essex

    Hi all,
can anyone help a primary school just outside Ilford (Essex) find some Araucanas?(point of lay or laying) We've so far built the coop and fenced a large area of walled garden. We particularly wanted Araucanas for their blue/green eggs.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

Guess that Maureen's post might be a place to look.

If you have trouble getting hold of Araucanas, why not try Cream Legbars which also lay blue eggs. They are quite popular at the moment and more breeders seem to be stocking them.

            Araucana

Thanks to everyone for their help so far. I may follow the advice and change my tack to cream legbars, my only sticking point was that a decent araucana will lay a consistently coloured egg with a strong colour score, my experience of the legbar (from some years ago) was a paler colour and not guaranteed.

Things have changed a lot since I last kept birds, I can't believe the price of a trio! I used to pick up some tidy birds at Bury market and would expect a cracking trio to cost no more than £30.

I'll pop over to the auction next Sunday and see what's in.
