I don't keep chooks but do like to buy genuine free range eggs from a lady at my local car boot in summer. Yesterday she told me she only had bantam eggs but I bought them anyway. I'm wondering why some of them have a distinctly green shell. I tried a couple boiled last night and there is no difference inside or in taste. Chook experts, please tell me what it is.

Different breeds of hen lay eggs with different coloured shells. Some breeds do lay distinctive blue or green eggs. Shell colour has no influence on the flavour of the egg itself (we had a friend who would only buy brown shelled eggs as she believed they contained more fibre like brown bread)Happy Gardening,
