me too, boo hoo, just the idea that she got herself up one last time to have a bit of a peck of breakfast with her girls then probably felt a bit tired and thought she'd just cuddle back down again...bless her, only wish that we could all go like that, big hugs to youxx
That's sad news, reading about Ellie on this thread I've come to the conclusion that she was a very happy chook that loved her keepers and life to the full, she had the chance to be a real chook, to scratch around in the dirt to eat worm's and to feel the sun on her back, to make friends with other chook's in a place that was safe. Well done to you and your's for giving her the opportunity to be a free range chook. xx
She must of had a very happy life once she was taken into a very good home, an excellent age for a very well cared chook, lets hope the others in your flock live as long and enjoy life as much, just a real shame it ended this way.
thanks. i know that death is unwanted, but without death to focus you, you have no reason to live. if there was no end to life, you wouldnt be in such a rush to enjoy it.
out next eldest is Atilla the Hen - a pure warren we bought years ago as a broody with chicks - and what a broody - quite happily take on a jack russell when defending her babies!
She is 7 and missing Ellie already. Just moping about now her old friend has gone. i am going to put some 6 month old Cuckoo Marans in with her to give her something to focus on as she really is a matriach!
