all the pictures of speckledy hens show a good sized crop, both of my birds have virtually no crops and seem to be definitely lacking in the facial adornments, this makes them appear so different to the rest of them, will this eventually change? as they are young birds,or is it possibly just their particular crossing of breeds? im not worried, but i am curious...any ideas??

I think you must mean comb, not crop? Yes? Young pullets never have much in the way of comb and it will only redden and grow as she approaches lay. Although pullets are sold as point of lay from 18 weeks onwards, most don't start until nearer the 26 week mark, and some breeds later than that. You don't say how old they are but my guess is they are still just very young and will "comb up" in time.

Agree with Sally - their combs and wattles will grow with time - most photos taken of birds are taken at a couple of years of age - this is because they have fully developed - moulted into thier proper feather colouration, grown to an appropriate size and shape, and have being laying so have lovely red combs and wattles of teh right size.
Don't compare your young birds to these pictures, its like comparing a baby picture to a teenager - totally different!
