Strange egg this morning

Well I'm guessing this is what should of been an egg at least anyway.

Went in to check on my girl's and one of my laydee's did what I thought was a poop at first, but on closer inspection there all that you see in the pic is everything she pooped out.

To worry or not to worry?

urmm...I've never had one- but I've seen similar posted on the rule the roost section. Have a wander through some of the threads - you'll find more detail on that.
As a one off I think it's no problem.

It's difficult to see, but is it just a soft shelled egg with lots of things stuck to it?
If she's a young hen just started laying, I wouldn't worry about it and as Ncos says, if it's a one off, I wouldn't worry about it either.

The paper that is stuck to it is the bedding from where I scooped it out the nest box, and obviously the poop on the left that she did with it.
I'm not sure if it was one of my ex-batts as I was so shocked at what came out I forgot to look at her feet. (Ex-batts are ringed).

Either way, I wouldn't say they were young or old. Eldest is 2 (the ex-batts), youngest of the bunch are just turning 1yr (from breeder).

I'm not entirely sure who is laying and who isn't, as we have a thief in the camp and have lost 2 eggs today to the little fiend. But on a good day we have been getting 6 from 7, bad day is 4 from 7 at the mo. But they have all laid previously.

Looks like a "lash". It happens when a part of the oviduct is shed. Tends to happen more with ex-batts who are at the end of their laying life. If you search the forum you'll find a lot of threads on this. It just happens and there's nothing you can do about it.

Hi, I had my 1 yr old Speckeldy lay one like that around 2 months ago (I think) sure I posted a thread on it. She's laying fine now.

It is a lash Sue - its a bit like chicken menopause - nothing to worry about your chook is fine, and there is nothing to be done about it - she probably won't lay you any more eggs though, sometimes they do but usually no - depends on age and how large the lash was - oh yeah and the bird herself!
