Chicks and worming

Just wondering at what age chicks should be wormed? When do you all include them into the worming regime?

i would only start worrying about worming them Sue once they are out on grass and picking up bugs and grubs etc. this will be around 12-15weeks. until then they arent at risk at picking up worms etc.

My chicks free range from 2 weeks.
I worm Sept/Oct and March/April. My chicks have just fitted in with the adults.
So far this has work well, but I do keep an eye on the gals/dropping- although I've no idea what I'm looking for!!!

I suppose my chick have been 7 months and 5 months when they've had a dose- but last time round I made the error of trying to worm a mom who had 3 chicks..some of them got a 1/2 daily dose occasionally aged 2 weeks..but they have lived to tell the tale

I was told that it's OK to worm with Flubenvet almost immediately when we hatched some last year,from memory I think I waited until they were onto Growers Pellets.
The four we have now will probably get a dose at about eight weeks before they go to the lottie.

I'm taking the younger ones to the allotment later this week (just over 6 weeks) but they'll be on a run which has been unused for over 6 months apart from the Orps who've been there a couple of weeks. I think I'll give them time to settle in before worrying about it as I've just done the big girls and theyre unlikely to be mixing with them for some time yet.

good decision i think Sue. If you had used Verm-X i woudl say treat now as verm-x dislodges the worms not kills them, so the eggs and worms on the ground could still be viable, but as you have used Flubenvet which kills the worms then anything on the ground will be dead.

Treat the little 'uns in a few weeks time when they can rotate into your normal worming pattern

I have also treated the run/logs/pallets with ***** fluid and lime and also replaced all the wood chippings before the littleys went in there so should be fine for now.

Hello,
I'd like to put my 3 week old chicks in the same garden as my flock of adult bantams. Should I worm the adults first before bringing the chicks in? (The chicks will be in their own house and run to start with, but will be on ground that has been used by the flock.)
