Warm weather reminder..

Hey everyone! Most of you won't know me as I've not been on here for ages and ages but Im a grape with a couple of gal chooks in the garden.

Just wanted to remind everyone old and new that new warmer weather brings mites and so it's probably a good time to start looking out for them at dusk and maybe even spray the coop and smear their perches with Vaseline as a preemptive strike against the little blood sucking nasties .

I wont go into details about breeding numbers (not many in May and then swarms in June) or the products to use as they've been covered (exhaustively) in the red (black) mite thread at the top of the page but just thought a nudge might be helpful, especially to new keepers.

I wish I'd gone to bed earlier now! But, you're right Lizzy!

Chooks will be checked, coop, nest-boxes and perches will be Jet-washed this weekend, and 'stuff' will be applied liberally where required!

From my experiences last year,I'm definately taking the prevention is better than cure approach this year!
For any newbies to chicken keeping,please please read the sticky about mites.Tis gruesome reading at times,but several of us were caught out last year...unaware of just how nasty they are
