Can someone give me an idea of cost in terms of looking after chickens?

Thanks again all, the dogs would under no circumstances be anywhere near the chickens, not only is the garden split in half by a secure picket fence and the chickens would be on the other side to the dogs, but I''d also plan to build them a proper walk in height enclosure which would be big enough for a couple of chickens to scrat around in for when I'm not there to supervise. When I say the dogs have free access to the garden, they only have it to their side of the garden and not the 'veggies' side under any circumstance! In the whole the dogs are good with cats and small animals and are used to having them around, but they've not had any direct contact with birds and I wouldn't put it past them to try and have a pop if they were given the chance.

This isn't going to happen overnight anyway, possibly not even this year but it's worth knowing all these things! I would definately be buying feed in bulk - we buy everything for the animals in bulk where it's possible. Never knew that about wilkos though, off to have a look now!

Can someone point me in the right direction of how big an enclosure I'd need to build to keep 3 chickens happy, with possibly an odd day per week where they couldn't have free range in the garden? (There may be days where we work all day until after dusk so they'd have to stay in their enclosure that day).

My 4 are in a 3m x 2.5 m walk in, roofed enclosure. They stayed in it all the time in the worst of the winter weather but usually get let out each day.
