  • Fox!!

We have been very lucky thus far in the fox department, but last night we had our first incident. One of our aylesburys was injured and had to be culled, but we managed to scare him off by getting up every half hour and chucking shoes. Tonight all the girls and gals are locked up tighter than alcatraz with bells everywhere so there are no silent breakins, and I've sprinkled little tasty tidbits in a well-lit area and installed (liscenced) OH in the upstairs bathroom window. Anyone else fighting Mr. Fox?

nope - he is too scared to come around here at the moment as he had a brush in with our dog and i tend to chuck the dog "mess" over the hedge to scent the boundaries to remind him!

plus all our birds are penned within 2" security mesh so they are generally safe

So sorry to hear about this. It's exactly 1 year ago this weekend that Mr Fox got in and killed all 13 of my hens, I was absolutely devastated! Right now I'm not at home and one of my granddaughters is "chook-sitting" for me and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything's ok - no news is good news etc. Mind you, I've really upped the security measures in the last year!

Reynard has been doing his rounds at the allotments where my chooks are. Paw marks on the nestboxes, things knocked over that couldn't have been done by the wind.
I've just put some chicks out today so I'm particularily worried. If I hadn't been at work tomorrow, I'd have probably camped out with my high powered air rifle!
