  • R.I.P Holly

Well sadly my two and a half year old warren Holly has died She had been goind down hill for around a week and after worming and miteing she had not improved and took her to the vets today. But she died on the way

Vet said no visable signs of what was wrong, no worms and was not egg bound. I asked for some Tylan to does them up now. These are the three my mum has at home.

I did not get charged a consultaion fee (£34) and just got charged for the Tylan.

    Oh well

She had a nice life, one of my originals gone

poor Holy, what a shame, they can be quite fragile, don't always know why they go when they do

This thread (and others like it) has really brought it home to me, that we all care so much about the birds we keep. It doesn't matter if we give them names, refer to them as chooks, raise them for food, raise them as pets, say we could do with downsizing the flock or otherwise refer to these beasts that steal our time and our hearts. In some way, a whole host of people come to this site to share their stories and actually care about hens we've never met.
I am just coming to the end of a very busy few years in life, and whilst I haven't posted as much as I would have liked, when the world is asleep and I am grabbing a few hours, this is one of my regular haunts (on-line) and it has been lovely to have been a part of it especially as I hope to have more time in the future to join in. Thanks guys, for making me feel normal about crying over a deceased, wonky legged, not quite left the egg, etc... chicken

I don't keep chickens but our daughter does, as well as ducks. We bought her two Aylesbury ducklings a couple of months ago to give her something to help occupy her mind while she was/is being treated.
They have gone from little bundles of yellow fluff to HUGE great beasts towering over her two miniature white ducklings.
We have all had great pleasure from watching them grow and the antics of the chickens has often given us a good laugh at a particularly difficult time in all of our lives.
I truly sympathise with all of you who have lost your chickens.

Oh dear- what a sad week for you.
I've just spent an hour sitting in with our chooks, feeding them by hand so I'm feeling very maternal about them at the mo....I feel really, really sad for you- you must be gutted.
