i have just been looking at different breed photos, and it seems that one of the speckledies that we bought the other week looks exactly the same as the photo of a plymouth rock, still not been able to figure out how to use vista home premium to get pictures onto the vine, then more expert eyes could have a look, she is a beaut, twice the size of the speckledie, and a lot better marked, are the plymouth rocks good layers as she is not in full flow yet so only the odd small egg so far....

The Speckeldy hybrid has been produced from marans, and look very much like both a cuckoo maran and a barred plymouth rock. In fact when you look through breed photos there are many types that look very similar to each other because of the similar feathering patterns. It's the tiny differences like eye colour, leg colour, number of toes, colour of ear lobes etc etc that matter.
However it's unlikely that the breeder who sold you the Speckeldy would have made the mistake of selling you a pure breed instead of a hybrid! She is probably just a very good and healthy example of her type.
Egg colour will probably determine it for sure. Plymouth rocks lay tinted eggs, while the Speckeldy I believe lay darker, and speckled eggs (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

the girl from the agri shop we bought her from told us she knew nothing about birds, and was only doing the picking of the birds because everybody else was busy, there were at least 6 types of bird in the area we got her from,as the following weeks have gone on,her plumage has got more distinct, and she is now nearly twice the weight of the speckled hen, when i checked more barred plymouth sites last night ,it removed any doubts, she is a beautiful barred plymouth,i think i got a good deal there......
