  • Eggs

I have two Araucanas, one lays blue eggs and the other a blue/green.

I have two Buff Orps and have collected a pale brown egg every other day one day pinky/brown and elongated very slightly layed in the coop, then the next time a yellow/brown perfect egg shape layed in the nest box.

Do chickens lay the same shade of egg every time in the same place or does it vary?

The reason I am asking is to find out if both Buffs are laying as I am still not sure if Bumble is a girl or boy ( As posted on a previous thread).

The colour of my girls eggs does vary. Some days they are very pale, some days more speckled. Have no idea why this is and they all lay in the nest box but different places each day.
You'll have to catch them in the act!

The colour of my eggs varies too. However, the shape generally stays the same. You might have both orps laying and then you can heave a sigh of relief that you don't have a cock after all! The only way to know for sure though is to watch who goes in and out of the nest box.

Yes they do. Smaller than the hen but otherwise pretty much the same. The poo comes out a different shape as well. Longer and narrower than a hen, which is more "blobby", if you know what I mean.
