to celebrate my daughters birthday today, we planned a hatching for today, and to our delight, she came down for breakfast and found little chicks in the incubator.
The usual mxture of bantams, millefleur barbu d'uccle and some lemon booted, but to her huge squeals of happiness (would you believe she is 11 today?) some marsh daisies have hatched.
These are on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Critical list, thought be extinct in 1971 but a small flock survided in somerset which all the daisies are descended from.
If anyone has any marsh daisies out there, and wishes to help conserve the breed, we would welcome a contact from you to help breed these birds. as yet we dont know the sex of these chicks - they are only 5 hours old at the moment - but if you have some MD, we would consider some exchanges to help improve blood lines etc. our trio are unrelated so the chicks should be healthy and vigorous
Photos will follow of course, but i have included a picture of "Daddy" Daisy so you can see what stunning birds they are.
