Egg from nowhere

I don't keep chickens although I would like to, the deeds prohibit it.

Anyway I was getting the front border ready for planting, weeding etc.
Its next to a low dividing wall. At the end is a lavender bush.
I was grubbing the weeds from under it when up popped what looked just like a hens egg.
I thought, no it can't be, it must be a rubber ball of sorts, so I gave it a small squeeze.
It went pop and was full of yucky smelly stuff. I buried it immediately whew what a niff.

Anyway I have no idea where it came from. No one around here has chickens and it was too big for a wild birds egg.

Any suggestions ?

Nope, sorry - but probably been there for a while if it stank! Could it've been a Duck egg? They're not all 'text-book' colour.

It was the classic hens egg in size and colour.
But I guess it could have been a duck egg although I have not seen any ducks around either.

Could it have been a fox having nicked an egg and left if for another time??..mind you- I'd have thought it'd have been half buried!!

....what other wildlife would nick an egg and leave it 'in storage'?

We have had reports of Foxes around.
But where would he nick it from as the nearest source is the local Spar.

Fox or Dog...or child?.... and buried it could have been there years... especially if it was well packed...
