Hens and trout!!!!!!!

Strange title I know but I like to do a bit of trout fishing now and again, and now and again I actually catch a fish or two.
I usually fillet the rainbow trout so that I don't have to gut them..........thats where the hens come in!

I googled it first, and found out that trout head and guts are well liked by hens and it supposedly does them good.

Each main flock got a trout remains and seemed to demolish the guts first but seem to be taking longer with the head? If there's anything left tomorrow I'll have to pick it up and burn it in my woodburner as I don't want to attract rats.

Made me think of 'surf and turf' when I read the title
Personally I love trout grilled with butter and a sprinkle of fresh dill, mmm. Lucky you Snadger catching your own. ***suddden mental image of fisherman sat on bank of river surrounded by gear, and half a dozen chooks all peering seriously into the water***
As for the chooks, why am I not surprised, so far I havent found anything they wont eat, except banana skins.

My girl's love celery... well at least i think so cos there was never any left.

I grew way too much of the stuff last year and rather than it go to waste i use to pick a few leaves/stalks off every couple of days and feed in a hanging cage as entertainment for them. There was never anything left that suggested to me that they didn't like it.

You must have some picky girl's!

My new ones wont eat slugs or snails,they run away,would never have dreamt of putting raw fish bits in though, learn something new everyday true enough

no trout in my river - pike and stuff i think but OH hasnt done any fishing for ages ...

Oily fish (which includes trout) can flavour the eggs, but if they are only getting a small amount per bird, it probably won't be enough to notice.

That doesn't surprise me Snadger. I let the girls out to run round the garden one day before spotting the remains of a mouse left by TRex - before I had a chance to get a shovel the girls had sorted the problem for me
