can worming affect shells ?

Hello
following on from lots of advise re: our chickens keep dying the other 2 a Black Tail and a Nera are still with us. They seem happy & lively. I have been worming them this week and one is producing very soft shells - one came out yesterday right next to me with out a shell. (There is plenty of grit and stones around in their large run )
is it due to the worming powder?

My lot have just been wormed too and I haven't had any "squashies". Mind you, I do also add poultry spice and cod liver oil at the same time as the Flubenvet. Glad to hear your girls are ok now though, maybe they just need a bit of building up. Good luck

i do add poultry spice to feed regularly and cider vinegar to water. They do need fattening up as look quite skinny. They dont like the layers pellets much and just peck out the corn I mix with it

I'd leave the corn out completely and only give it to them as a treat in the late afternoon once they've eaten their pellets. If they're not keen on pellets, try mixing it into a wet (hot water) mash and add poultry spice to it. To fatten them up a bit, give them a few mealworms too - but again, as a treat once they've eaten their "proper" food. They're like naughty kids aren't they

Chickens will not starve themselves Jelleybaby. Do as Maureen suggests and leave out the corn. They will eat the pellet if there is nothing else. It is important that they get their share of vitamins and minerals. You should start to see an improvement in the shells after they have been on pellets for a couple of weeks. Worming will not affect the shell quality.
