It's Bantams, Richmond. I didn't make that clear did I. Just that the only Silkies I have seen are the bantams, haven't seen a full size Silkie.

How much damage do they do in the garden, ie do they scratch about as much as hybrids, do loads of damage to plants?
Any thoughts?
But I have ended up with so many coops and the main garden on a rota that I am wondering if it is worth the fuss. The only birds I have no problem with are the Silver Birchins who just go where they want regardless of what the other birds say.
As for how much damage? I never kept silkies but I know people who have them in their gardens. Gardens being the operative word here, with grass, plants and everything. Almost made me switch over but I do have a soft spot for the Orps, so will be looking at bantam orps and hoping they are similar
Don't know how much help that is but good luck whatever you decide.

CA We're not sure about anything with these three. The eggs were donated by a sanctuary where chooks & chook breeds are not their strong point. There is a collared dove who sits on the fence watching them for hours.....maybe it thinks it's found some relatives
I guess they'll be whatever they'll be. They certainly are incredibly dinky at 5 weeks compared to our other hatchings/bought chicks at 2 weeks and they look even smaller next to Mum who is an enormous Wyandotte.
