  • Smite?!

    I've just been sent an email which praises this powder to the highest Heavens. But surely it is just Diatom under another name? My email makes these claims;

    Kill Lice, Mites and Worms in one go!
    One product - two methods of application - dust hens or mix in with feed!

    Once applied it will continue to work for ever ...

    Does anyone know anything about it, and is it as good as it says (yeah, right) or rubbish?

    I buy the concentrate and mix it in a three litre sprayer. I then spray the coop, perches and nest-boxes to within an inch of their lives, about twice a week. It's expensive, but far cheaper than buying it ready mixed. Ain't got any critters yet, but that may be tempting fate!

      I always have my doubts about products that claim to "do everything". I personally have not tried Smite (for anything) so cannot comment. My guess is that it may be effective against one type of parasite, but all three? Hmmmm. Certainly the only two poultry wormers that are recommended by vets are Flubenvet and Solubenol. I'm happy using Flubenvet as a wormer, louse powder for lice and creosote for red mite. They all work for me so I see no need to change. Others may disagree.

        Dunno where you got the idea it kills worms, unless you mean earthworms?

        Worms are not mentioned in this advert;

        Non-toxic control of red mite, ants, fleas, bedbugs & cockroaches

          It's not my idea, that was copied & pasted directly from the email. Here's the website read it for yourself. I think the main claims are probably hokum.

            It says harmless to earthworms. Fed at 5% of rations kills internal parasites.

              At £27/kilo this is exorbitant; the product is available much cheaper if you buy a larger quantity (about £28/25kg). I've posted the supplier info on this forum already...

                The Quill people charge quite a bit for postage, then VAT on top. But this might be better if anyone uses eBay; search for 230487051270
