  • Dozen Eggs No More

Can you believe that the EU are sticking their nose where it's not wanted AGAIN. From next year all food must be sold by the kilo and not by number. So, no more 6 eggs or a traditional dozen.

How bloody stupid can it get???

Pathetic - so will we now start calling ten a metric dozen?

The old names for measure and weight seem more expressive to me always - think of a foot and a yard.

And consider if the song had gone, "I would walk 300 kilometres (approximately)...

Doesn't have the same ring at all.

You'll have to put in half an egg to make the weight up!

        See, to them it's logical.

Make rules, then when you leave the job you can be hired as a consultant to run workshops teaching other people how to audit for the stupid rules that you made when you were in post.

But we can still buy a pint of beer. There's a case for keeping our traditions.

What's going to happen to the egg boxes then? And the manufacturers of the egg boxes? And the man who sells eggs on Lowestoft market won't have a clue - at the moment he packs either six or a dozen into his boxes and sells them to you - lovely they are!!!

They'll all have to be weighed and the weight put on the boxes apparently, will mean egg prices will go up as packaging would have to change. Even sox rolls will have to change to 500g of rolls. Bonkers.

I buy eggs by the tray, ie 30 eggs, I don't care how much they weigh, I want 30 eggs.

Eggs come out of chickens in round whole numbers. Not in kilos.

Or, as we'll keep saying, no matter what they tell us - two and a half dozen.

Whatever happened to weights and measures?I was under the understanding if you sold a fixed amount of anything (12 eggs,3 apples, 1 cucumber) they weren't involved!

is this for real? Any reputable source to look it up? I mean, I can almost believe it but it seems a bit far fetched when the rest of Europe does actually buy eggs in whole numbers too.

                          oh, found it

I think it's another one of those stories that go round & people are extracting the urine.

I worked in a place that did hard boiled eggs(about a million a week) & most of the eggs were imported from the EU.
They came in cases of 360 YES 30 dozen.
