We-ell, it's day 21 of Mrs Broody (CL) sitting on her eggs (copper black marans). I but raised her up a bit for a quick look and found one empty shell, no chick. Lifted her up a bit more - no chick. Raised each wing - no chick. Had a little look around the broody coop - no chick. But I think I heard some cheeping...she must have it hidden under there somewhere...the suspense is killing me but I don't want to disturb her any more.

Very, very exciting - had a little listen again and heard definite cheeping from more than one by the sound of it, peeked through and caught a glimpse of a little dark fluffy head popping out from under the tail feathers. So that explains it!! Yes, photos as soon as she brings them out...

4 fluffed up and healthy looking little chicks now : D
Two are black with little bits of white under the chin and on the wings - look a bit like Pingu, and they have feathery legs, and two are more silvery in colour, especially the latest which has a little dark spot on its head. So am wondering whether they are all Copper Blacks. All marans though, going by the dark eggs. Another egg is pipping but seems to be taking its time (oh, the suspense continues...) Which leaves only one egg yet to do anything.
