Thanks for your replys, I did call the breeder today and all i was told was to change the feed to a mash rather than pellets, so i have made a mash out of pellets will feed make that much of a difference they are free range round the garden and get a bit of corn as a treat.
Shouldn't make a blind bit of difference, as mash and pellets are basically the same, just come in different form. ie like Paracetemol comes in tablet's and capsules.

Sorry for being so blunt, but the breeder does sound like he is fobbing you off. I'd seriously take the girl back to him and do as Nicos said...
Even pets@home give you some kind of guarantee with the animals you buy from there and will continue to offer advice throughout (ok i know they don't deal with chickens... yet!) but you still should have at least a 28 day grace period.

Where are you Zippi? You might be near a fellow grape who can help you.

I would always be willing to help out grapes near me.

Thanks i am just north of Peterborough, you are all helping loads, she is still with us looking a bit brighter but still very reluctant to walk or stand up, went out and got some layers mash, poultry spice and some poultry nutri drops i dont think they have had much effect although she is trying to eat now, she has had a thick red/brown poo with some creamy yellow discharge aswell, have had another person with a little more chicken experiance look at her and even he said give her a day or so, i will give her till tomorrow i think and see how it goes,

You're only up the road from me Zippi, where did you get your girl's from?
Was it Alconbury? As I had 4 from there last year and only have one remaining. Just waiting for the last one to croak it, even my ex-batts have out lived the POL's.

Won't be buying from there again.

I did as suggested above and took her back to the breeder, Sheena i got them from Bottisham, spoke to Mr who was a bit more helpful and suggested the odds were 80/20 against her, but she may well perk up so i could take her and a replacement and it could be any number of things wrong with her, so decided as i dont really have suitable isolation facilities that i would get a replacement quite gutted really as she was really quite perky just unwilling/unable to stand with droopy wings and tail, however Nugget mark II has settled in well already in the dust bath with the other 2, think now i have all healthy birds will get them wormed tomorrow, thanks for all your help its really appreciated

Glad the breeder took responsibility, and that you now have a healthy Nugget MkII, hopefully MkI will make a good recovery.

It's onwards and upwards now, just keep ya chin up and know that with all the advice given, you did your best whilst she was in your care.
Here's to a happy clucky future

                  poorly pol

I have a similar problem, listless last couple of days not eating or drinking, moves very little. It was suggested I gave her nutri drops she has been on them for 36 hours but honestly can't see any difference. The other 5 seem fine, any advice or help would be great. They are a delightful group. Have had hens over 40 years but am still a bit of a softee

Sorry to hear that. This chook keeping lark can be quite stressful when they're ill. Not that I'd be without my girls.

That's really sad. So sorry for both your losses. Its the heartache that comes with keeping animals isn't it. They more than make up for it in love and joy though. Chin up!
