Still no further forward! Left chook on remand for another evening and found the rest were back to there evil ways....no more eggs for two days and although no sign of eggshells there was soggy egg white in the bottom of the nestbox.
Lone chook had laid another egg but when i lifted the nestbox flap she jumped out in among another flock. I thought the others might attack her but when I went to catch her the cockerel attacked me! He also appears to be stepping inbetween any of his own laydees who try pecking the newcomer......so I left her overnight.
Today she is fully integrated and along with laying her own egg must have coaxed another chook to lay. Nine eggs today from this batch of a dozen oldies, so I certainly can't complain at that and she will stay where she's at.
I now think it may be the LS cockerel who has developed a taste for eggs, but he won't fit in the broody coop so I need another plan!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
