I went upto the allotment tonight as usual opened the door to the lottie and was immediatley greated by a chick flying at me landing in my arms and burying it's head in my arms. This was an even bigger suprise as I don't have any chicks at the lottie and certainly no marans. I've now fed watered and homed on very hungry and thirsty chicken. I've also been all around the other allotments and no one is claiming ownership im the only who keeps chickens. My only concern is that I've been landed with a cockeral. If it is a cock it's not too much of an issue as I have the room but I have took a couple of pics and would appreciate if anyone can tell.

What a stroke of luck!
Good job she found you and not a fox eh, well as I said she... looks like a she to me.
But i'm still a novice at these things, and maybe someone else will come along with a more accurate sexing.
My thoughts would be to see if she crows in the morning, she's got to big enough to do that if she were a boy. but I am just going by the feathers. They seem more rounded to me, which is what pointed me to her being a fabulously lucky lady.

well the chick comes with a sad story. I was talking to one of the allotment holders I've not spoken to before the chick was his but in the night someone had broken into his allotment let all his chickens out and proceeded to chase them around and kill them all. I just cannot believe what some people in this world are capable of. The chick must have escaped through the fence or over it. The man asked if I would keep it as he has lost the heart to keep chickens he said if someone can be that cruel to them then he will not keep them where they can be treated this way. Oh and he confirmed that he's a cockeral.

That is really horrible Dan. Feel really sorry for the guy who's lost his birds. I've had mine stolen twice and never knew their fate but as there was no evidence to the contrary I hoped they were being looked after by someone somewhere. I do hoe you can give the little guy a good life however short.
