we got some flour the other day and i sprinkled some on their pellets,is there a set amount that we should be giving them?,or any special way of administering it,we have not had a soft egg for two days now,so we aqre moving in the right direction...
I generally pour a tbsp of Cod Liver Oil over the food and then sprinkle a tbsp of lime stone flour over the top, the oil also helps the flour stick to the pellets.
You don't have to do this daily, once or twice a week should be sufficient to keep softie's at bay.
to jessmorris and sheena, thanks for the info, will do as directed,as luck had it i had put some cod liver oil on first anyway(more by luck than anything else),with the ex-broody now getting some colour in her comb, things are on the up...ta.
Me too, the broodies look so awful by the hatch time - pale combs, breast bones like razor blades, crazy growls and pecks and mucho bristlings of feathers if you go near them. Then two days later, a house of fluffy chicks and mama bustling about, on her feet, showing them how to scratch, what to eat, calling them to her. Its quite miraculous (and I've only done it thrice!)
