Hello everyone!
My OH and I will be collecting our first batch of ex bats at the end of the months. After reading some horror stories on various forums, we have decided to keep our girls in a secure covered run.
But...this won't just be any run; this will be the Fort Knox of chicken runs! But I would greatly appreciate advice from all of you knowledgeable grapes
We have a fox problem in the area and have had to chase a fox from the kitchen twice in the last three months in the middle of the afternoon! I don't want to resort to any drastic measures and feel that as the girls have never been outdoors before, they will appreciate an enclosed run greatly.
After lifting a large patio, I find myself with copious amounts of heavy slabs. I have used these vertically to create some raised beds (half sunk into sand). As I plan to have a permanent run, I have been advised to slab the interior of the run and cover it with gravel or Hemcore for the girls to scratch about in. This will also enable me to hose down the area for cleaning. I intend to use the remainder of the slabs in a similar style to the raised beds around the perimeter of the run to prevent foxes and badgers trying to dig in for a free meal! So that’s that...
All I need to do now is find some reputable supplier who isn’t too expensive and has some good, strong wire mesh that I can attach to my wooden frame... need advice here as the world of mesh, gauges, hole size etc is giving me a headache!! Girls come in ten days so need advice soon!
Thanks everyone!
