  • Don't $*&@ing Believe it!!!

I just don't believe what I just saw.

After the cat stealing our Frizzle Pekin chick last week, we have built a total maze in our back garden. The chickens cannot be reached from the 6ft wall around the garden at all.

The same sodding cat has just rushed through our french windows from the garden and out through our catflap carrying the other Frizzle. We've chased it, but it obviously knows the territory better than we do and there is no sign of the chick other than a few feathers. The only way to get to any of our chooks now is through the house.

The fecking cat (sorry) must have sneaked in through the house to get to our garden and no one noticed it, especially our own cats.

I just don't believe it. I'm going to do stuff to that cat. I'm so angry I'm literally shaking.

    Oh no

I've just chased the nasty white cat out of my garden AGAIN! It combines crapping on my lawn with stalking the baby blackbirds. I hate it.

All of the other chooks had gone to bed, just Shirley and her two teenagers having a last peck about.

DD had looked out just minutes before to see if she could shut the henhouse door yet. She didn't see the cat either. One of my boys thought they heard a kerfuffle at the catflap, which is in a door just under his room, but with 11 cats that's not unusual.

BH has reported this cat and his comrades to the RSPCA officer on the emergency line tonight. This officer says that they will get someone to check out the cats and the conditions they live in 'as soon as they have a free officer' We also reported the owners for threatening to set their Staffordshire Bull terrier on DD when she politely asked if she could see if our chick was in their garden because she thought she could hear it.

I'm going for a stiff brandy before bed. Just had enough lately.

Hope the brandy helps you calm down, the whole evening seems a bit of a shocker.

So sorry to hear this! I have four cats but can understand how you feel & to have the owners threaten to set their dog you (DD) shows just how scummy they are.

I too would be seething if this happened to me!

Want someone to sit with you all night? I'm on amber alert until I see any cracks appearing
I don't do brandy, but will provide light entertainment before the white coats do eventually come for me.

That's awful Jules, our neighbours don't seem to feed their cat because it kills and eat everything and anything. It was eating a squirrel the other week and then a bat!! (((Big Hugs)))

I beg to differ...I had a white cat and he had nothing wrong with his hearing.

Blasting any cat with an aerosol foghorn would definitely not do there hearing any good at all.

Awww jules- I could hardly believe what I read- you must be so upset- and angry. xxx

I think being practical, you're going to need to build a covered area for any chicks- either that or just buy adult birds- (but hatchng and watching chicks grow is part of the fun of having them isn't it??).

                            Good luck with your neighbour.

I tried to integrate the two Pekins with the other juniors but they squealed for mum and were constantly picked on. Mum is getting back in to lay, and although she looks for them at bedtime, she's not interested during the day.

The juniors are under cover and I thought they might accept the Pekins but the fighting was quite ferocious for such young birds. We left them to it, under a watchful eye, but had to rescue the pekins after one got such a peck his head was bleeding. The juniors are younger but they are all LF so much bigger.

The Pekins were free ranging in the back garden with their Mum and as everything looks like a prison camp we thought they'd be safe. The french windows are constantly open in this muggy weather to get some breeze circulating and because I just never thought the cat would be so daring. These cats have been known to use our catflap to steal food from our cats' feed bowls before, but they were 'discouraged' by water bombs with english mustard (with chili) & water in them.

As I see it, the problem is not with our chicks, but with the cat and the only way we can stop it is to deal with the cat. We could buy a tag-controlled catflap, but we'd need to order another 9 collar tags and put collars on our own cats. The expense would be huge and although it would help, I don't see why we should have to turn our home into Fort Knox.

The BH is chasing up the RSPCA in a little while. He says he's just going to keep nagging them and making a pest of himself in a very polite way until they do something.
