Girls or boys?

Can anyone take a guess? Jess M, if you're about, based on your pooters, what do you reckon to these two? They'll be six weeks old on Saturday.

Id have more of an idea if one looked a bit different to the other, but they are almost identical!

Now that mummy hen has ditched them, Ive been playing mum. Im really surprised at how tame they are considering Ive only handled them once or twice since they hatched. After just two evenings of playing with them, they will now eat from my hands and run up to me to be picked up - sooo sweet. Desperately hoping they are girls although would girls have little wattles at 5 weeks??

Our two little pooters looked like that at 6 weeks, but their combs didn't get much bigger by the time they went at 11 weeks. We thought they were girls and so did the new owner who was experienced with pooters, but it's so hard to tell even at 11 weeks.

The Budgies, as we called them, loved to be picked up too and would wait at the french windows and the back door for DD to go out and play with them. She was quite miffed, on coming home one Saturday, to discover that both Budgies and her other favourite, the Frizzle Poland, had gone to new homes!

Never had pooters so don't really know. I initially go by comb size, how quickly it develops etc - boys get pink fleshier combs much faster than the girls, which appear less pink, yellowish in some breeds, and rather "drier" looking. You may have to wait a week or two more to be sure of what you have there. And the boys will be heavier. Take one in each hand and see if there is a weight difference. If both the same then it's likely they are both the same sex, though which I couldn't say!

So its a case of waiting another few weeks or so til it becomes a bit more obvious it seems.

We call ours the 'wheelies' Jules, because their feet are hidden by their feathers, they move like they are on wheels

What the hell is a 'pooter'?

Length of legs,attitude (i.e. fiesty,greedy,dominant etc),spur bumps, sticky up tails, wattles, are all signs of cockerels.

Well they are cute, but no idea what sex..

Snadger, it's a Sablepoot or Belgian bantam. True bantams with no large equivalent.

have a look at their legs, the boys are usually much thicker in boys .... though not a guarantee

aren't they sweet!! Looking at my pics and comparing them, I think they are boys, sorry. My hen sablepoot had no head furnishings at all at 5 weeks! But have a look in my album and see what you think. What little sweeties!

Boys were my gut feeling. Gutted. Brought them in for playtime tonight and they both fell asleep on my knee. When they woke up I left them for a second to go fetch grapes and they cried til I came back.

Why do boys have to crow??!
