  • Good layer and meat bird?

    Hi all.

We are looking to expand our hens and would like a breed of bird that is tasty and a good layer does anyone know of a breed that fits our requirements?

    Many thanks

Light sussex, good layers and good meat birds, especially when crossed with dorking and indian game

Most of the old 'dual purpose' breds.
RIR, Light Sussex and Marans all qualify (as do many others, but those are the ones I can remember).
Crosses between those breeds are good as well, and some crosses produce sex-linked colouring in the first generation, so you can spot the cockerel chicks at hatching (and bring them up separately, which gives best results for layers and fatteners)
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
