  • bathing egg bound hen, how long?

    Hi All,

I have a hen who i think is egg bound, can't see anythjing in her vent but she is acting like she is trying to lay since yesterday morning. She looks bright, comb healthy but she can't stand?

Tried putting her in warm water yesterday to lossen things but nothing so far, how long and often should i bath her??

    Thanks, Mandy

I have done them twice a day if needed but it generally works after once. Ty and kee he in there about 20 - 30 minutes. I find if you gently press on their back they will relax into the water and stay with no fuss. I also blow dry with a hair dryer which they seem to like too but thats mainly because most of the ones who've had this have happened in the cold and wet weather.
    Hope she's ok fo you.
Have just noticed you say she can't stand - not a symptom I've come across. Maybe a visit to the vet if she's no better tomorow?

      Thanks Sue,

She is happy in the water for half an hour but I am thinking you are right and it is time to get her checked over as she is still not standing. She is bright and alert but not eating either...

Absolutely - especially if she's not eating. Have you tried cooked egg with yoghurt? Hard boiled or scrambled go down well with my girls. Fingers crossed.
