  • Layers pellets

Hi my 3 hens have settled in now had them 2 weeks, and just had 3 eggs in total, last two days yippeee,
all the hens have seem to have gone off the layers pellets, i let them out in a morning and they just root round in the soil and drink the water, but dont seem to see them eat the layers, i tend to give them treats late afternoon they love sweet corn, they eat it like vultures as though they are starving is this normal,

They always tell porky-pies and make you believe they're starving when they see treats! Yours are having you on! Leave off the treats and just let them have pellets.
Those first eggs are fab - but so are the 2nd 3rd 4th.................................!

        Hi
I had a similar problem with my chickens at first. I started feeding them mash and they love it. I leave some pellets for later if they want them as they eat the mash immediately.

I do the same. Mine are banties and I wonder if the pellets are too big for them. I make up a mash for them in the morning, and they can have pellets from the hopper if they get peckish later on. Sometimes they eat very few pellets or mash, I guess it depends what they can forage in the garden....

I use some basic muesli with hot water and mix layer pellets in with this each morning. They love it.
