our top bird, minnie,a blackrock, seems to be having a time deciding what she is,she has started trying to mount our light sussex hen, caught her doing it several times over the last few days, and making a funny, growling like noise... is she now batting for the other side?

i think it's a sign they are ready for having boyfriends ..... most animals do it to members of the same sex, some even try it with other species ..... come to think of it, theres a lot of humans do that too lol ...... relax, it's quite normal

our girls are the same they are ex batts and Delilah (aptly named!) mounts each and every one of the other girls daily. It was really scary at first cos we thought she was bullying them, even put her with the neighbours chooks to see if that would calm her down but no luck! So she's back! Just let her get on with it however do keep an eye as we had to take one of our girls to the vet to be PTS a couple of months ago cos she had a dislocated hip vet said she could have done it when getting into the hut but possibly when Delilah got a bit over excited! If all else fails we could start the first chook gay pride!!Last edited by pinkprincess; 01-09-2010, 01:05 PM.
