It won't ever come back again, it's now in the dustbin! Yes it is dead, we were next to the little blighter and it wouldn't let go, it wasn't nice, no other choice really. It was only after that we thought it could have bitten us, but our thought was getting it off the chicken, it wouldn't let go and was dragging her around on her back with her wings flapping, it didn't seem scared of us next to it, believe me we tried everything!

It's not a 'nice choice' but it would have come back for more. You were lucky you caught it

A Stoat will walk through normal sized chain-link as if it wasn't there. A mink probably could get through, although not as easily. Stoats are brown (often ginger, but sometimes other brown colours) with a white or cream tummy and (identifying factor) a black tip to the tail.
A stoat is slimmer than a biggish rat (but longer) a mink has a similar 'waist measurement' to a biggish rat, but is at least twice the length.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Just to update the girly who was attacked is now back with the others, she's a lot better after a bit of rest, plenty of corn and treats and a bit of tlc, she was out and about tonight with the girls around the garden and ran straight into the run when the corn was shaken along with the others. Can't believe she survived it really, her wounds are healing nicely and she has a nice red comb again

Hi Sue it is, I really didn't think she would make it. She's been back out with the others tonight after a night and day in the hen house and run. She looks fine!

Incredible rescue there... well done you... We had mink attack last month, just as you described but Gladys was beyond saving... I've never imagined I would ever want to kill anything before but if I could have got close enough to the mink I'm afraid I would have done so without hesitation... Lovely end to a traumatic story though...
