  • Well... I did it!

They're cool! 17 weeks, so probably some time off laying yet.

I got three, a light Sussex, magpie, and French black rock. Seem reasonably tame, in run now munching on some weeds and salad leaves
Clipped a wing on each, glad I did as I didn't realise they can jump so high! The light Sussex wanted to explore I guess hehe.

Coop settled down, doesn't really smell, I went inside for a while to see what it was like.

Quick question- the lower beak seems longer than the top... Is this cause for concern? From a local farm, who's birds appear to be free grange, buy these were in a cage.

I like the sound they make when they nibble the magpie is huge too!

Cat just attempted to assume run, then turned and legged it hopefully these birds will save me bother of shooing the damn things away!

They'll have had their beaks clipped as they will have been intensively reared. They've managed so far with it don't worry! It'll probably become less noticable soon.

I've loads of pics on my phone, but wifey is on laptop so I can't post them yet !

The LS is a right character, def the most tame. Black rock one doesn't like being handled, but the daft thing was just jumping at the coop entrance so gave her a helping kick up the backside to get in. Magpie is ugly face wise, really big though.

What's a French black rock? Diff strain from the usual scottish one?

Little un thinks they are dogs, and likes to sit watching them whilst munching on mud.

Got a couple names, benedict, Florence... And stuck. I think the LS should be called Sunday, as well ya know dual purpose and that! Or soufflé - gotta love the cliche!

Sat outside working on bits of the run, even inside it at one point, they didn't care... Odd as my mate got some the other week and they stayed in the coop most of the day- same types and from same place- I guess same batch too.

                      Pics soon

Btw avocado and what else can't they have? Are cooked veg alright too?

                          Pics!

Peeking in the box, daughter saying hi to the dog, and then when I was doing some work in the run (i.e. forgot to link it to the coop, or put a door on it )

No idea why they're on the side, they're the correct orientation on the lappy? *shrug* tilt ya head to the side

                              Lovely pics!

I got mine at 16 weeks and they started laying within 2-3 weeks (that was when light levels were rising though not falling don't know if that makes a difference?) so I wouldn't be too despondant that it will take ages and ages. You might be surprised....

They all look so clean and fresh, like mine did when I first got them - you should see them now - right at home they are lol

                              Enjoy your new girls
