please please help

my oh brought some chickens from a market on thursday and put them in with our chicks (not knowing about quarentine)
well its been a utter nightmare they are all (like a cold) and my buff orphington has got really ill her eye is all runny and frothy looking and she wont eat or drink just sleep
Im so upset and my oh feels dead guilty as he thorght he was being helpful
what can i do to help them??

Sack him!
Garlic in the water or Respite - or/and a vets visit to get an antibiotic. I know some people here have had this problem so they'll be more help to you.

yes my oh has strict instructions to never go to market again.

If their eyes are bubbly it could be mycoplasma in which case you urgently need Tylan to treat all your birds. If you can't get to a vet then see if any local chicken keepers could help you out. Most people keep Tylan as its soluble and comes as a powder.

I agree with Sue. Mine were a bit sneezy (one still is) but no other symptoms - all eating and drinking well so I got respite and it has helped lots.

If yours aren't eating and drinking then I think you should go to the vets or as Sue says ask a local chicken keeper if they can help you out.

I will try and get hold off the bloke who gave me my first lot of chickens, im sure he will help.
im just so gutted my chooks were in great health untill my oh put these ones in.

just a quick update. my oh asked the chicken breeder to have a look at them and it looks like the dodgy eye is down to fighting and she wa much better yesterday afternoon
and it looks like the new ones picked up colds from being kept in cold stressful conditions (our new chooks were badly pecked by chickens in the next cage at the market)
weve given them live yogurt. they've always had ACV and garlic in their water and i've put poultry spice in their food.
I have also ordered some respite.
Is there anything else i can do to help them?

There's a product called Avipro plus which is a probiotic plus vitamins which is really good for stressed birds. Got mine online - (Pet drugs on line I think or could be Vetmeds). I've found it useful for ex-batts. I think its about a tenner. The other stuff is Net-tex Nutridrops which are also a vitamin boost andfast acting. You'll probably get those locally at your feed place.
So glad it wasn't mycoplasmosis. Not a nice thing to be brought in. I'm sure the new girls will be fine with lots of TLC! Maybe a big hug too for OH as he MEANT well!

just a update
it looks like my chooks do have mycroplasma after all.
sarah from happy chickens has kindly helped me out ans is sending something to help them.
my orphington is worse today and my aracuna is starting to sneeze. ive spent all day fussing over the poor things.
and to make my day even better one of the birds my oh brought is old and has leg mites

Personally, I would report the seller! Selling unhealthy stock should not be allowed.

Meanwhile, I hope you manage to get them all healthy, and can start enjoying your birds again. Don't forget, all us other addicts would like to see pictures!

We cant report the seller as we dont know who it is. my oh went to this market/auction thing that sells everything from cars to livestock.
hes learnt his lesson he said he will only go to propper breeders from now on

We had the dreaded mycoplasma 2 months ago - tylan sorted it out rapidly. they got it at the same time as a red mite population explosion so I think it must lay dormant then surface when the bird is stressed? therefore, the seller might be innocent after all?
