Poultry spice is mentioned a lot, I think it's a multivitamin. I've also seen garlic mentioned for putting in thier water.
Then I guess there is the worming products, but I think I've seen you asking about them already, one was recommended for no egg withdrawal.. Flubervet or something.
Avipro plus - a probiotic with other stuff added for stressed, or recuperating birds,
Apple Cider Vinegar for general health
Diatom for parasites - can be used in the coop, in the dust bath, in food
Anti peck spray
Purple spray with Aloe Vera for wounds
Louse powder
Creocote to treat the coop against red mite
Nutridrops - instant boost for ailing birds
Wound powder
Cornflour for stopping bleeding
If you cba to mess about with wormer, Marriage's sell a range of Chicken food with Flubenvet already included. Naturally, it is more expensive than others, but takes the hassle out of measuring, mixing, and either over- or under-dosing your Birds!
I now use it for two weeks at a time, about three times a year.
All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment Freelance shrub butcher and weed removal operative.
Creosote/cote for red mite prevention - painted in the cracks and crevices of hen houses, re-done each spring/summer and I find this alone is enough to keep the mite away/kill them if they do creep in
Flubenvet for worms - I worm each time I move the enclosures, usually three times a year. Recommend more often if birds use the same area all year.
Barrier louse powder - used regularly repels lice
Poultry Spice - add to feed as a winter booster
Tylan soluble (antibiotic which needs to be prescribed by vet) - handy to have in the cupboard
Garlic - crush fresh cloves into drinking water. Good as a booster and helpful with mild colds. Be careful of not using too much with laying hens in case of egg taint.
Apple cider vinegar - now and again, not all the time as it can reduce "good" gut flora as well as bad so ideal useage is one week in four. Do not use with metal drinkers, only plastic, as it reacts with the metal and produces toxins.
If you make it with exterior ply you really only need to do the joins. RH does a simple box shape made of ply I think. My latest one is made of half inch ply so I've done the floor and all joins with Creocote as I constructed it.
Yes, am planning to use ply. thanks - I'll probably just do that then for now Don't want to derail the thread but if you silicone the joints I've noticed creocote doesn't dry on it when repainted - do you lot do this, or don't bother with silicone... or do you just wipe off once the sides are dry? Hmm... wood filler may work - I may try that
I tried silicone but found it comes away too easily. Tried decorators caulk - that'll take paint. On my ply coops I've just poured creocote in! We'll see next year which works best but I have a sneaky suspicion I know already!
As Sue has said, our houses are a basic ply box, with the joints sealed with silicone. We then just need to put creosote round the ends of perches (as they are removable therefore not siliconed) and into one or two other cracks and crevices (where perch meets bracing bar, that sort of thing). We don't creosote over the silicone. Because the floor, walls and roof are made of one single sheet, there is no need to creosote the flat plane.
