I have a 28 week old hen that went broody for a fortnight but is now over it. How long will it be till she is back in the saddle so to speak and laying again?

How long's a piece of string?!! My bantam Orpington started laying about July went broody after around 5-6 weeks and hasn't layed since. My guess was that she'll start again in the Spring or when the nights get shorter anyway.

My Amber went broody and came out of the broodiness in about a fortnight. I think it was another couple of weeks before we got an egg. Might be longer at this time of year as they tend to lay a bit less with the shorter days. As she's only a youngester though, you might get eggs again before spring. Depends on the breed I suspect. A hybrid should lay again before too long. Some of the pure breeds lay fewer eggs per week anyway.

Mine was broody when we rescued her. the move shocked her out of it and bearing in mind they were in a bad state we got regular eggs after about 6 weeks. My friends broody hen hasn't laid an egg in months. Who knows. Hope she lays soon.
