  • Put five chooks in greenhouse tonight!

Tomatoes are finished so dragged a makeshift coop into my large greenhouse and the five hens who were with two cockerels all hatched at the same time, are now in the greenhouse for the winter.
They are LS crosses, big birds, but there backs are matted with dirt where the randy cockerels won't leave them alone.
At least they will have a bit of peace now. The two cockerels are looking very sorry for thenselves though left on there own as they are.

I may put one of my mature cockerels in with the LS after a week or two which would mean I could unleash the two cockerels on his old harim!

Really windy over here too - when mine came out of the pop hole, all three turned around and went back in coop. Funny to watch, almost like horizontal rain pushing them back in

But that's a great idea Snadger - I need to move their coop to make the new one and cut down the tree between the run and coop - I could bung them in the greenhouse temp.. just will need to find somewhere to put the spuds so they dont eat em

They have settled in really well!

They've even managed to find the nest boxes and lay me four lovely eggs.......one of them a double yolker methinks!

They seem to have a facination with digging in the one foot space behind the coop so I may move the coop up against the greenhouse side to stop them congrgating there and to give me more room as I come in the greenhouse door.
They've had sausage rolls, ripe tomatoes and sprout leaves for orderves this evening as they seem to have eaten very little of their layers pellets.

Their backs are still matted with mud from the randy cockerels but I noticed they were preening themselves a bit so hopefully I won't have to resort to bathing them.

Auld Sid Vicious my Silver Sussex cockerel may join them at the weekend which would allow me to open up the pophole between where the cockerels are now and let them run with Sids harim of ten chooks!
