Don't know about your Penny but I have 3 ex-batts and 2 other Warrens shedding pillow loads and it was -9*C at 7.30 this morning on the allotment! I'm seriously worried they may not survive this severe cold though they did come through last winter unscathed.

I have one in full moult...the only one of 10 adults!!
Never seen one of mine lose so many feathers- and it's the first time I've seen so many pin feathers and bald patches
(Must admit I've checked for lice and sniffed for fungal infection just in case)
....just daft isn't it???
( oh yes- I also have a broody)"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

This is where the terrm 'Chicken brained' comes from. What animal would wait until the temperature dropped to minus 6 and there was a two foot covering of snow before dropping its feathers?
Chooks can sometimes be one egg short of a full English breakfast methinks!

Some of mine started moulting back in September. I think they're taking it in turns. I have two 'Oven-ready' Batties at the moment, they look very similar to when I collected them last Christmas! They seem happy though, and are eating well. All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

I have two currently moulting one of which is very thin on feathers - I'm a little concerned that she is going to freeze solid! She can get inside and they also have a old greenhouse angled out of the wind so she has more than enough shelter. Can't be pleasant though.
Hot mash every morning this week!!
