  • just had to chuckle....

I'm off work at the moment poorly....Have just got up and thought i'd let the girls free range in the garden for a bit, well my 4 old girls and old hands when it comes to snow - not fazed at all, but, my 3 new ex-batties well......
came out of the run rather tentively 'wots this white stuff' and proceeded to flap wings and shoot across the grass - bless them they did look comical, one has managed to find some grass underneath and table the other 2 are walking around looking like they're on stilts!

how are your girls coping with the snow?

Mine are out scratching around in it like kids! Most are ex-Batts that I got last Christmas, so they've seen it before. Hopefully it'll encourage them to finish their moult and feather-up now!

My hybrids refuse to come out until I've cleared their ramp - bad design on my part as it's not under cover! The others stay under the covered run except my rescue Silkies who just tiptoe around the edge of the snow then retreat on to the straw bale under cover!

Mine hate it. They run out, eat their fill and then spend all day in the coop.

Mind you they are moulting and look pretty much plucked

Mine don't mind it if its not too deep - they get up late and hover around in the sunshine or wait under the bird feeder for corn to drop down...if its actually snowing they stay in or under the coop - the game birds mind it less than all my booted wonders! ;-)

Mine weren't impresed with it last year and this year they have a fancy new cover over their roof so they don't have to set foot in it. When I let them out at the weekend the 'old girls' just carried on as normal but the one 'newbie' wasn't happy and didn't wander far from the coop at all.

Mine hate it! I have some older hens that would have seen the snow last year but none are particuluary impressed.

I have put some pics up on another thread - wanted to see everyones snowy pics

                tough nuts

we got two rhoderocks last year at this time, now ,they both run out into the snow(-8 @2pm) and have a great time dashing around, they were in 1ft of snow when we picked them up originally, the rest,a load of wusses, wont come out of coop area onto snow, even bitsey, the barred plymouth rock, who launches herself at the rice tray in the afternnon, stands in the middle ,fluffs out her wings and has half a dozen mouthfuls before the rest start to eat,but give her some snow and she stays at the back, waiting to see what the others will do,on a slight tangent, today we saw 17 types of birds around the feeders, incuding some lovely redwings, beautiful birds...
