  • Don't they know it's December?

I just can't believe my hens! My Welsummer started laying a week ago, one of my bantam Orpingtons laid her first egg today and to crown it all one of the refugee Silkies has decided to go broody!
    Do they know its Christmas!!!!!!

Same here - the bantams are just pumping them out - can't believe it. They've never done this well before in the depths of winter. I usually have a few laying but this year nearly all of them are, and only a couple are youngsters. The LF are being more reserved though. Only two of those are in lay.

Of course, I froze a load of eggs in the summer to use this winter, expecting a lull, and they are all still sitting in the freezer unused!

Me too! I have given most of my fresh ones away I don't want to be left with a freezer full.
