we were selling at £3 per lb, plus £15 courier for next day before 12 noon to anywhere in mainland UK. the birds were boxed in polystyrene and cardboard plus has cool packs suitable for up to 36 hours.

so i reckon that £5 per kilo was a very fair price. Wholesale you could have sold them for around £2 per lb.

We did ours for £2.50/lb, and could easily have sold several more. However, the prices will be going up slightly next year, due to food price increases etc.

        I already have 4 pre-orders

I hatched some Turkey eggs in august to have for the table at Christmas.
Initially 6 hatched but I went on holiday for a week left them for someone else to care for and when I came back there where only two left.
They where slate bronze x and initially they started on Turkey Crumb. I then moved them on to Turkey growers followed by Finishers. All in all they had a bag of crumb a bag of growers and two bags of finishers which all in cost about £25. I dispatched them the other day plucked them and for the first time ever butchered them as well (which went really well). One weighs 14lb and the other 16lb. I went past the butchers the other day and he is charging £30 per bird for that weight for what he says are free range non commercial breeds. They have been no trouble to look after(other than getting them in at night) and where less demanding than the chickens. When it came to plucking them this was more difficult than chickens the skin teared a little easier so it took longer. Just wanted to share my experiance as a first time turkey rearer and will deffinatley do it again

When we had the farm for a few years, we reared about 20 Norfolk Blacks each year for the local Christmas Poultry sale (auction at the local livestock Mart) Prices tended to be a little over £1/lb, but that was ny dressed weight (just plucked, and the 'tidyness' of plucking could make a big difference). Killing and plucking 20 turkeys to all be ready for sale the one day, shortly before Christmas, was hard work.
The last time was 1998, so with inflation and the extra weight, would have come to about £5 a kilo dressed weight by now.....
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

we average £2 a lb this year at auction and obviously more privatley. some auctions you can sell them long legged - saves all the effort of plucking and dressing them and it makes very little difference on sale price
