  • Wing Clipping

Just a quick question for the experts.

Is 12 weeks too young to be clipping wings?

    Cheers

No its fine, you can clip at any age, its best to clip as soon as they require it. Clip just one wing on each bird, leaving the first two long primary feathers, leaving the feathers is for no other purpose than it looks good! Remember as soon as the bird moults it will need doing again.

I had to clip mine at about 8 weeks. By then they could get on the coop roof, then over the Heras fence! By 14 weeks they could fly over the fence from the ground!

They seem to get a bit full of themselves dont they!!

Were lucky because hubby built a high fence, and at the moment the three little ones are flying from one end to the other of the run, and it just looks like they are saying "look i can go further than you!"

Will clip them today before they go up rather than accross
