Everyone has their preferences, and this can be influenced by price and availability according to the area you live in. You should be able to get Farmgate in your area which is reasonably cheap feed and GM free. We find it harder to get down here.
At the moment I get Marriages feed at £6.75 for 20 kilos which is a good quality feed and I think not too expensive. I don't buy mixed corn, preferring straight wheat which I can sometimes get direct from the farm which is obviously cheaper than the feed merchant.

in stafford you have the choice of Wynstay Feeds -which charge around £7 for a 25kg sack of pellets, or you could try Countrywide in Newport, whcih cost around the same.
If you can get enough interest together to buy 10 bags at a time, you can drive to the mill at Stoke on Trent and go direct to Farmgate Feeds (BOCM) and they will charge you around £5.50 per sack (only 20kg mind)
Apart from that, if you go to Leek Auction every other saturday, there is a poultry storesman that goes there, and you can get Farmgate from him for around £6 per sack - plus you get to look at all the other birds!
Around here, we use CCF Feed Merchants and get a 25kg sack of layers for £6.25, and a mmixed corn for £7.20. if we go to the coal merchant (sounds daft but there you go) we can get layers for 5.94 and corn for 6.50
i went yesterday and picked up:- (all 25kg unless told otherwise)
2 x coal @ 5.72ea
2 x corn @ 6.50ea
1 x layers @ 5.94ea
1 x working dog @ 6.99ea
1 x pig feed @ 7.04ea
1 x horse feed @ 7.40ea
1 x rabbit @ 9.90
total 61.71 for the weeks feeding - a shadow of what it cost me in staffordshire
I use Fancy Feed Layers' Pellets at around £6.50 a bag unless I'm worming them, when I change to Marriages which has Flubenvet included. I was lucky enough to be given two dustbins full of corn by a local farmer this week, which should see the 'boys' through to eating weight in February. Usually I buy Fancy Feed corn as it is cheaper than Marriages. Both are local companies to me, which is why my stockist supports them.
I have never even seen Farmgate Pellets round here!

I use Allen and Page Smallholder range because they are approved by the vegetarian society and are made with natural products - if you believe what they write. They cost 7.95 for 20kg.
I think they are all much of a muchness and go for whatever fits your values - e.g veggie, organic etc.
