Our neighbours dog attacked and killed our 4 chickens last christmas, eventually we caught it after the owner denied all knowledge and claimed his dog was in their garden, until we caught it in our garden and wouldn't release it until he admitted all responsibility. The owner didnt learn his lesson, and the dog got hit by a car in the icy conditions, luckily not badly hurt, but I think it took that to realise his dog was escaping regularly.

i don't get it. I would be mortified if my dog caused inconvenience to anybody - whether it be by her barking, fouling, or escaping. It is so important to me that she behaves perfectly and is a perfect dog citizen - what is wrong with those dog owners out there that can't look after their dog properly -ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE - AARGH!!!

You are right two sheds, we are hoping to get a german shepherd in the spring and it will be going for regular dog training sessions at a specialist centre. The only dog we ever got rehomed was a jack russel that suddenly bit my son when he was about 8, sitting on sofa minding his own business. Biting children is a death warrant in my book but my OH found a fantastic home for her with an elderly couple.

Soapbox moment - one of the things that really gets me upset are dog owners that do not socialise and train their dogs properly. It makes things incredibly difficult for the dog and for everyone else and leads to countless homeless animals. We have one nearby who I walk whenever I can just to give her some exercise.
Petal - we met a lovely German Shepherd on Christmas Day when we were out walking - he was huge and a great big softie, really lovely!

I feel for you on this one Petal. The neighbour is totaly to blame a terrier that is not trained to do otherwise will always revert to it's instincts and do what comes natural I feel sorry for you and the dog you have both been let down. When a fox got my chickens I was angry not so much at the fox but at myself for not protecting them better foxs will do what foxs do. When someone broke into the allotment and killed chickens I was angry at them because they did it out of wickedness.
