  • Tree surgeon in the family!

Which is great news, hopefully won't have to buy as much wood shavings/chip now..

Quick query though! Can't seem to find any solid evidence, I and he knows that yew is poisonous, but what about conifer? He's a massive pile of ash that I'll get some off when I build the new run/aviary but I also know he has a load of conifer chippings.. Added to that I need to cut one down, as it's blocking some drains and I was going to chip it up too and use some of the branches as perches in the new run - would it be safe, or not?

    Thanks

My Chooks have two climbing frames. Both made from Conifer branches. Can't help re chippings for Chooks, but they'll make good paths or add some to your long term compost bin.

I put in the run whatever the tree surgeon leavesin the heap at the bottom of my allotment! Definitely conifer there and have been using the same stuff for several years with no ill effects.

Great thanks, I'll chip it up and use some for branches then go get a load from him too.

Just to say that Laburnum is toxic too and should be avoided.
